If you’ve ever felt stuck in the 9–5, wondering if there’s more to life than bills and burnout, you’re not alone.
I’m KC, an Australian solo female traveller in my 40s, and in 2025, I left behind my full-time job, apartment, and routines to embrace slow travel and live as a long-term digital nomad. This blog post is for any woman over 30 who’s thinking about doing the same.
What Is Slow Travel?
Slow travel is a style of long-term travel that prioritises presence, purpose, and connection over speed or sightseeing. It means staying longer in fewer places, building routines as you go, and truly experiencing life in each destination.
It’s perfect for:
Anyone embracing the digital nomad lifestyle with more intention
Solo female travellers seeking a deeper connection to place
Women over 30 tired of the fast-paced travel burnout

Why I Left the 9–5 for Long-Term Travel
My journey into location freedom started in 2014, when I worked remotely across Southeast Asia. But like many, I eventually returned home and fell back into the full-time grind. By 2025, rising costs, burnout, and a misaligned lifestyle made me realise it was time to choose another way.
I wasn’t looking for a holiday, I was searching for a lifestyle that gave me:
- More freedom and flexibility
- A lower cost of living
- Space to build my own business
- The chance to align my days with my values
Slow travel became my answer.
